Flying the (Holderness Coast) FLAG

The Holderness Coast Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) was established in 2011 to assist the development of the fishing industry and fishing communities along the East Riding of Yorkshire’s coast. (see map below)

Some of the projects that have been approved so far include:

• An apprenticeship programme for those wishing to join the industry
• Schemes to encourage use of escape gaps and plastic pot bottoms in lobster pots

• A scientific research vessel for the Holderness Fishing Industry Group

• A specialist fishery business adviser

• A health trainer for the industry

• A lobster hatchery

• Improved harbour facilities at Bridlington

• Yorkshire Living Seas Centre at Flamborough

• Coastal seafood festivals

• A maritime heritage programme

• An educational resource pack

• A web site to promote the local industry and local product

• Community based seafood cookery demonstrations

• A seaside themed annex at Hornsea Museum
