Sample local seafood only a few feet away from where it's landed - it doesn't get any fresher than that!
2015 saw the introduction of a new style Bridlington Seafood Festival. Carrying on from previous festivals held at the Harbour, this year's festival was even bigger and better!
Held on Saturday 11th July, over 12,000 people attended on the day. The festival was organised by the local fishing industry, Bridlington Harbour Commissioners, the FLAG and the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. It featured lots of new activities, including demonstrations by local chefs, a children's activity tent, an entertainment marquee featuring local singers, themed stalls and exhibits and a visit from the fisheries vessel the "North Eastern Guardian".
In 2016, the aim is to put on an even bigger show with a three day event, starting with a celebrity dinner at the Spa on Friday 8th July, the main Festival at the Harbour side on the 9th July and a series of themed maritime events on Sunday 10th July.
With new festivals springing up each year the word about the quality of seafood in the region is starting to spread. Here's our pick of the many food festivals in the area which feature sea food caught on the East Yorkshire Coast.
Hornsea Carnival & Food Festival takes place in late July. Being combined with Hornsea Carnival means you get all the fun of the fair, entertainment and 'royalty' as well as princely produce from the sea. more info: www.hornseacarnival.co.uk
WithernSEA Festival in early August celebrates the bounty of the sea and is a great excuse to visit this small seaside resort town with a lobster industry worth over £1million. If you've ever wondered how to cook such fare the festival comes to your aid with cooking demonstrations as well as stalls enabling you to buy the very freshest local produce. There's live traditional sea shanties performed through the day and if you want to get really close to the source there's a raft race - but you do need to build your own! more info: www.withernseatowncouncil.co.uk
Bridlington Seafood Festival takes places around Bridlington harbour with seafood tastings, competitions for kids and plenty of maritime heritage interest too with displays, exhibitions and historic vessels. The festival usually takes place mid-august - we'll confirm dates on here as soon as they're announced. more info: www.bridlingtonseafoodfestival.co.uk
Local seafood is also represented inland at Driffield Show in July. Driffield is a proper agricultural show with livestock & produce judging and entertainment throughout the day. East Yorkshire's fishing industry is represented with cooking demonstrations and tasting opportunities. more info: www.driffieldshow.co.uk
Beverley Food Festival takes place in October and includes a taste of the Yorkshire Coast with local chefs - many with Michelin stars to their name - giving demonstrations of how to make delicious meals with local produce. more info: www.beverley.gov.uk
